A Goal, A Project a Day

Awhile
Yes it has been awhile but with a move under my belt and a summer in full swing I have excuses that really makes sense for neglecting my writing and posting. It is a Sunday here and I actually have my feet up. One little project idea I have is using the things that didn't sell at my rummage sale this past week and making them over. What a bunch of dweebs who past over my cool stuff! Number one project turned out so sweet and special. It doesn't need a lot of explaining but we as a family took this "ok" and a bit eighties painting to the next level of cool. I bought it thrifting mainly for the frame and put it in the shop thinking someone would snag it but no. So after it sat in the sale I took it inside and bought some acrylics and set everyone to work.
First off I spray painted part of it gold. Cause, well I had it. Then Maddie went first. I have to say she was the most thoughtful of her brush strokes and took the most time. Carefully stepping back and planned out her process. Like any amazing artist :)
I made marks and shapes from time to time in between everyone's turns as well. Next up was A and in true fashion made a few marks with seemingly no effort or plan and they turned out to be the most bold and awesome. How does he do it?
Jack added his lines the next morning along with Ellen. They both took to the brush and paint and canvas with tons of gusto. Without a care in the world and with no plan but added so much to the texture and composition that everything worked together.
I then went over some of the rougher parts with a gel medium. Urgh I just love it so much. I of course could not wait to hang it. Even though it was nap time I ever so quietly hung it on a sturdy existing nail left here when we moved in. The stairway to the kids rooms/level has been transformed with a pop of much needed color, movement and texture.

Getting in the Sprit.
It is that time of year again. Time for lefse making, cookie decorating, and eating large amounts of food. But in the small business world it means making money. We have to start early on the holiday grind. At Hello the House I have started to revamp my space into a funky winter wonderland. I want to stand out and be the space to come to for fun and unconventional décor. I have hand dyed over 70 bottle brush trees and made adorable vintage cars into "traveling" snow globes.
I just love how these little winter scenes turned out and I am bound to make more. Looking forward to the weekend as the start of the official shopping season and big traffic at the store. I am anxious to see how sales are and what everyone is finding at the shop. It isn't the reason for the season but in the cycle of the dollar my art and crafts being sold help me and my family pay the bills and enjoy our holiday as well. Cheers to all.

Scout Obsessed
I have been so busy. With the start of a new school year, getting back into the routine with the kids, keeping up with selling vintage on Etsy and at Hello the House in downtown Hudson, and now starting Scout I am beat and it isn't even fall yet.
But I love it and busy at this point hasn't turned into overwhelmed... Yet.
Here is a peak at a store display Scout Supply Co. Is doing for a great environmentally sound and stable shop in Hudson called The Purple Tree.
So honored to be asked to do this.

Ho ho ho
I really hate/love getting these catologs from Anthropologie. They are my enemy yet I love them. They feed my creative side. I can't even count how many times I have posted about this shop and I how I miss it and love it and hate it and NEED every over priced thing in there. I do get tons of good ideas when I get the catalogs and walk through the store though. I have even taken to collecting these paper emphera and displaying it in my at shows... ohhh swoon.

Sultry Audrey
I have been in love and in awe of Audrey Hepburn since I saw her in .... mmmm what did I see her in first? I have to say it was either Sabrina or Breakfast at Tiffanys, but either way she has been a role model of sorts for me... now I am NOT saying I am like her. I dont think girls in this day and age can and could be that classy no matter how hard we tried. But I love her style, grace, and overall awesomeness. Out of all the photos I have and have seen of her this one is a newby to me. And I have never really seen her look this way... Sultry. Usually she has this angelic look to her, even when shopping with her deer Pipin, this pic and look is new and fresh to me and I love that I keep finding her just as inspiring as I did in junior high.

Seriously? Free people?! I love your style, aesthetic, and feel. Flannel, sequins, tassels, ripped fabric... yep I say, YES! I love you and your ideas. I will do this in a few days time and I have all of this around the house... canvas, fabric up the wah zoo, hot glue, a sewing machine and I am just I would round up some glitter and glitz. Maybe I will have to submit these to the gallery here in town if they turn out the way I see them in my head. All I can think about is that someone at these Free People store will be lucky enough to take these home when the season is over! Urgh, I miss working for this company!
